With more watches being produced more than ever in many forms, it s the perfect time to find a watch that suits your needs. From voice recognized watches, .mp3 watches and even video watches being manufactured, the options are endless. I will cover three lesser known watch options for those interested in owning an unorthodox style watch. These watches may not be your first thought when you think of watches but these alternatives are interesting to check out.

Novelty watches: What a novel idea!

Novelty watches may include characters from cartoons or movies, holograms, glow in the dark hands or other features that aren t traditionally included with watches. Watches that include a calculator would be considered a novelty watch just as an .mp4 watch or a talking watch would also be classified novelties. These types of watches are generally less expensive than luxury watches and are often toy like in appearance and function. The chances of finding a Homer Simpson diamond encrusted watch are slim but finding a plastic version isn t.

The amount per novelty usually is low which makes some of them collector items for various niches, which can carry a high price. However this generally isn t the case with most novelty watches. There may be novelty watches that feature the likeness of a celebrity but being able to find one may be difficult. This is because most novelty watches are often unofficial unlicensed works that the celebrity hasn t agreed to nor do they see any profits from sales. Seasonal watches such as Christmas and Halloween themed watches may be considered novelties. For the most part novelty watches are made for children as toys with time features.

Wooden watches: Watches made of wood?

Typically watches are made of metals and/or plastics but did you know that watches are also made from wood? Watches made from wood only hold the actual time piece which in itself isn t made from wood. Any type of timepiece can be secured into a bracelet made entirely from wood grain. What makes these kinds of watches unique aside from the wood itself is the overall look. It s not very often you see someone wearing a wooden watch but when you see someone with one on, it s noticeable.

Wood can be stained in any color simply by using dyes which brings the original wood to life by making it more vibrant. The quality of wooden watches is often superior to plastic watches due to the strength that wood has. Another added benefit to owning a wooden watch is that it was probably hand made. Therefore each watch is unique in its own way.

Replica Watches: What s the point?

Replica watches are reproductions of other watch models that are usually more expensive than average watches. The primary idea of replica watches is to create a watch that closely resembles and functions in the same manner as the authentic model. Consumers now have the option of showcasing a luxury watch that only cost a fraction of the cost that the authentic watch would cost. Rolex watches are the most simulated replica watches on earth.

Whether it be a watch made of wood, a replica of a more expensive or popular watch or even a novelty watch, the way we decide to view time can be viewed in any way we choose.
